The Haulternative Closet: London's Luxury Clothes Swap 1st Ed. East

Updated: 5 days ago

Finding beauty in the chaos, The Haulternative Closet is an event series daring to revamp the clothes swapping industry.

This is the premise on which we built our first clothes swap, aptly named The Haulternative Closet (Haul + Alternative).

In response to the rise in the haul trend, wherein shoppers will literally heave bags of new garms home with them, we decided to take the time to consider how we could counter this culture in a way that avoided the bric-a-brac tenor of typical clothes swapping events.

From Burberry jeans to Christian Dior jumpers; Calvin Klein dresses to Barbour scarves, we strived to put luxury at the centre of the swap.

I banded together with my three girl friends- Besma, OG professional blogger at Curiously Conscious, Megha, full-time girl boss and founder of Uhuru Fashion, and Rosie, sustainability fanatic and Digital Analyst Guru at Burberry.

Together we had the perfect team to take over the London clothes swapping scene (at least we thought).

As it turns out, organising a clothes swap is pretty damn hard, especially when you want to ensure that you create enough diversity amongst the femxle attendees while maintaining a high standard of the garms in question.

Despite hurdles, from securing an event space to discovering that we cannot serve alcohol; from trailing around west London charity shops in the pouring rain to late-night Ikea shopping trips (only to find they had run out of rails!) hosting a luxury fashion clothes swap is not only possible but very fun!

Stay tuned for our next swap will be taking place next Spring for SS20!

Peace and love,
